Welcome to "CATS"
Gone but not Forgotten
Update Oct 19,2000
Yes, CATS closed on Sept 10,2000 after 18 years
on Broadway. We can keep the memory alive with our websites. I intend
to keep my pages online and I will keep a watch on my links page for
sites that close. Hopefully a touring company will start again.
So farewell for now and bring CATS back soon to a new jellicle life.
(My Thoughts and Review)
May 2000
The beauty of CATS is that all ages enjoy it, from the
very young to our senior citizens. What a wonderful way to introduce our children
and grandchildren to theater. My 4 year old granddaughter can tell you the
names of the cats, she dances and sings the songs. I got her the video of CATS
for her 4th birthday in Jan 2000 and she would
rather watch it than cartoons.
I think that says a lot for the show to hold the attentions of a child .
I've always enjoyed the theater and Phantom of the
Opera was my favorite. I went several years ago to the Kennedy Center
in Washington DC to see it and last year at Chrysler Music Hall.
It was about Nov 99 when I rented the video CATS
I really didn't think it was so great. Weeks later I was thinking
about CATS. I knew I needed to get some background as to what
this was about. I learned it was based on T.S. Eliot's Old
Possum's Book of Practical Cats. I bought the book and now it made
sense. What had seemed so disjointed when I'd seen the video the first
time, I now know that it was based on poems about different cats.
I then purchased the video and I fell in love with CATS. I bought
the Original London Cast Highlights and then bought the full-length
2 CD set. I had planned on going to see it this year if it came to
Norfolk. Well, I learned the touring company closed in Dec99. Then it
was announced in Feb 2000 that it was closing on Broadway June 25,2000.
I then started my search for best seats at Wintergarden Theatre
and boughtickets, center Orchestra, (Row C), 4th row from the stage.
The tickets were for the April 12, 2000 performance.
CATS is 2 hours and 40 minute long with one
15 minute break after 1 hour and 30 minutes. The show is so
fabulous that you don't even realize how quickly the time goes by.
The Cats come off the stage and interact with the audience throughout
the show. The show was so entertaining that when it was almost over
you wish that it could continue on. I was surprised that the theater
was small yet I read somewhere that the Wintergarden is one of
the larger theaters in New York. I enjoyed the show so much that
I decided my daughter and granddaughter must see CATS
before it closes. I purchased tickets and we went to New York
for the May 29th performance.
I have compiled a list of web sites devoted to
Cats. Some of the sites want all fans to write everyone that is
involved with the production of CATS. It is a good idea and if
they see how much we are against it closing, maybe someone within
the organization will wake up from their cat nap.
My next page has some excellent CATS web sites
I've located and as I find others I will add them to the page.
